At the end of last year, Dr. Richard Wolfert, DMD, owner of The Toothboss, a dental practice located at 1121 Main Street in South Weymouth, created a Hall of Fame for long-time patients. Dr. Wolfert wanted to recognize patients who had been coming to his South Weymouth practice since the beginning in 1988. What Dr. Wolfert discovered was a legion of patients from the previous dentist, Dr. Armen Nalband who have been coming to the practice practically their entire lives.
“When I bought the practice, we took over Dr. Nalband’s records. So, I can see how long people have been coming here,” said Dr. Wolfert. “I was stunned at how long some people have been coming here. Some as long as 50 or 60 years! Talk about loyalty.”
One of those patients was Hellen Kelly, who first visited the practice in 1958.
“Not only was I one of Dr. Wolfert’s first patients but I was also one of Dr. Nalband’s first patients, too,” said Kelly. “We loved Dr. Nelband and we didn’t know what to expect after he sold the practice to Dr. Wolfert. That didn’t last long as he put me at ease right away and continued coming here.”
Eugenia Volz made her first visit to practice more than 60 years ago. She recalled Dr. Nelband showing her a filling in her tooth and what she should not be doing.
“He was a grownup but really made me feel comfortable,” said Volz. “Dr. Wolfert was the same way.”
So, having gone to the same dental practice for six and seven decades respectively, what would it take for either women to switch dental practices? A million dollars?
“No, I wouldn’t switch,” said Kelly. Volz had a similar response.
“Wow! I think I might even switch for that much. Maybe I should have created a better gift bag,” joked Dr. Wolfert. “But seriously, I love being a dentist and I really do consider patients a part of my extended family. If that keeps people coming back year after year, then I’ve done my job.”
For being “inducted” into the Toothboss Hall of Fame—patients who have been coming to the practice for 30 years or more—receive a Toothboss gift bag. The tote bag with the Toothboss logo includes an umbrella, a travel mug and a few other mementos.
